On 9 August, Chungcheong Mega City (Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, Chungnam) has got past the first hurdle to securing state funds: the “2027 Summer WUG” was confirmed as the project subject to examination by the Ministry of Economy and Finance‘s Deliberation Committee on International Events(DCIE).

The Ministry notified the project to be reviewed and requested a feasibility study to the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy(KIEP). The feasibility study evaluates the feasibility of the event under the DCIE criteria, economic analysis, appropriateness of the scale of an international event, expenses required, and suitability of the financing plan. They will be used as data to deliberate the feasibility of the 2027 WUG at the DCIE meeting scheduled for December this year.

The total budget of the 2027 WUG is estimated at 723.1 billion won. Thus, Chungcheong plans to obtain approval from the Ministry of Economy and Finance this year. Using all the resources available, it will make utmost efforts to respond to and cooperate with the Ministry to secure the stable preparation and successful hosting of the 2027 WUG in the region.
