FISU Evaluation Committee inspected Chungcheong Megacity

The on-site evaluation for the selection of the host city for the World University Games 2027 (formerly Universiade) has begun.

Chungcheong Megacity 2027 World University Games Bid Committee (hereinafter referred to as the CMBC) said that the FISU evaluation committee consisting of 4 people including Acting President Leonz Eder arrived at the Incheon International Airport on the 26th (Fri), and visited and inspected major facilities in the Chungcheong Megacity such as Sejong, Asan, and Daejeon over the weekend.

The FISU Acting President Leonz Eder shared his impressions of the visit "I still vividly remember that Korea held the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade successfully," and "the splendid and impressive memories in Gwangju are still in my heart, so I am very much looking forward to this visit for evaluation."

The evaluation committee moved to Daejeon after entry, was welcomed by the CMBC, and started the full-fledged schedule from the welcome event together with the chairperson of the Province & City Council, mayors & provincial governors of Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam; Chairperson of Sports committee, FISU Executive Committee Member (President Yoo Byung-jin of Myongji University), and Secretary General of CMBC.

As a pre-dinner event, the Committee has forwarded the ‘One Million Signatures’ scroll containing the desire of the whole nation to host the Games to FISU Acting President Leonz Eder through Lee Kyung-eun Student Committee member, and Kim Min-ju FISU student ambassador.

Chungcheong Megacity has developed the One Million Signature Campaign and exceeded 1 million people in July, just three months after the full-fledged promotion from last April. 

At the welcome ceremony, the Committee conveyed its strong will to the FISU Evaluation Committee by ▲ Expressing the appropriateness and will why the Games must be held in the Chungcheong Megacity, ▲ Explaining the strengths and hosting capabilities, ▲ Ensuring that all support will be made to attract and successfully host the Games in the Chungcheong Megacity.

On the 27th (Sat), the 2nd day of the evaluation visit, the FISU Evaluation Committee visit the CMBC Office and listened to the presentation on the overall preparation for the attraction of the Games.

After the presentation, the FISU Evaluation Committee visited the Government Complex Sejong to tour the development of Sejong Special Self-Governing City as a multifunctional administrative city and Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital. 

At the end of the second day, the Korean Association of University Presidents in Chungcheong Megacity met the evaluation committee and explained the passion of universities and university students in the Chungcheong region. 

On the 3rd day of the Evaluation Visit, the FISU evaluation committee toured around Yi Sunsin Gymnasium and Daejeon World Cup Stadium, also evaluating Chungcheong Megacity’s overall capacities to host the FISU World University Summer Games. 

FISU evaluation committee will visit Chungnam on the 29th (Mon) and a press conference will be held in Osong. On the 30th (Tue), they will meet with domestic sports-related organizations in Seoul and depart on the 31st (Wed).
