The MOEF Approved the 2027 FISU Summer World University Games to be held in Chungcheong Megacity, if successful in the bidding
- Recognized the necessity and appropriateness of hosting the 2027 FISU Summer World University Games: Completed domestic procedures
- In November 2022, the host city will be announced for 2027 FISU Summer World University Games
The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) approved the FISU 2027 Summer World University Games to be held in Chungcheong Megacity (formerly Universiade) after deliberation with the Regular International Event Judging Committee which has conducted on July 29 and the result has announced on August 3, 2022.
According to the results of the International Event Judging Committee’s deliberation held by of MOEF on the afternoon of July 29, the 2027 FISU Summer World University Games in Chungcheong Megacity meet the standards of necessity (such as public interest, feasibility, and local residents' opinion) as an international event and the adequacy (such as plan feasibility and economic feasibility) without violation of procedural regulations, and the feasibility of holding the event based on the results of the feasibility study.
Secretary General Kim Yoon-suk of the Bid Committee said that "Chungcheong Megacity has laid the foundation for financial and administrative support from the central government" with the MOEF's approval of this international event.
If the Chungcheong Megacity is selected as the final host city for the 2027 FISU Summer World University Games, it is anticipated that "In the Chungcheong Megacity, the foundation of national unity will be laid by holding large-scale international events, and through which it will serve as an opportunity to improve infrastructure, strengthen sports capabilities, and enhance international status."
Meanwhile, in Chungcheong Megacity, the domestic approval processes have been completed to attract the 2027 FISU Summer World University Games: the feasibility study of Korea Institute for International Economic & Policy, and by the resolution (July 29, 2022) and notification (August 3, 2022) of the International Event Judging Committee by the MOEF via approval of Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KOC) (June 3, 2021) and approval of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) (July 20, 2021).
To promote the holding of fruitful events in the future, it is planned to sign an 'Agreement on Hosting International Events' between the heads of the relevant international event organizers (including 4 mayors and governors of Chungcheong Province), MOEF Minister and MCST Minister based on the judgment results for international events.
Secretary General Kim Yoon-suk of the Bid Committee, said that "By the 2027 FISU Summer World University Games in Chungcheong Megacity, we will do our best to prepare a presentation for FISU Evaluation Team's visit (end of August 2022) and the FISU Executive Committee (November 2022) to make the world recognize the status of Korea and Chungcheong, and to make it one of the most successful games of all time."
